Guy has been helping individuals and couples since 1994.
Guy has extensive tertiary training in the field, including a master’s degree. He is constantly receiving training and participating in professional development to ensure his practice is relevant, fresh and up to date.
Guy teaches in undergraduate and post-graduate courses helping students become practitioners in counselling and psychotherapy. He is a trainer and group therapist and regularly runs programs locally and around the country on multiple related topics. Guy is a Clinical member of the Psychotherapy And Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA). For many years Guy represented the field as a delegate to PACFA Council. He is a former president of the Australian College of Relationship Counsellors and is a Clinical member of that group. He is also a Full Member of the Australian College of Counselling And Psychotherapy Educators (ACCAPE), is a Clinical Registrant of the Australian Register of Counsellors And Psychotherapists (ARCAP) and is a member of the Australian and New Zealand Mental Health Association.

In November 2021 Guy was invited to become a member of the Clinical Council, advisory body to the Healthy North Coast Board. The Clinical Council serves as a direct link between North Coast health professionals, the local clinical societies, and Healthy North Coast’s Board. The Clinical Council is a fundamental part of the Healthy North Coast’s governance structure, along with Consumer and Aboriginal Health Councils to support the achievement of Healthy North Coast’s strategic vision and objectives.
Other contributions Guy has made include:
- A group for first time fathers which was run for a number of years
- Being commissioned to write a book for the City of Stonnington in 2012 on parenthood
- Contributed to two other books, The Ripple Effect of Depression (ISBN: 978-0-9873663-2-0); and Life is a Choice (ISBN: 978-1-4828-3282-2)
- Has reviewed a number of books by Australian authors in the field which have been published in the Psychotherapy in Australia journal.
- Is a regular columnist for the Law Society Journal of NSW on issues related to workplace wellbeing and have contributed to multiple articles and publications
- Has been on radio regarding a range of life issues from relationships, to parenting, separation and divorce, step-parenting, depression, anxiety and more.
- Delivered a keynote for the Victorian Association of Maternal Health and Child Nurses state conference and have conducted many workshops and presented at conferences including on the subjects of communication, depression and families and relationships.
- In 2020 Guy was the therapist in Channel 7’s program, The Super Switch.
