Counselling and psychotherapy
People usually seek counselling when they are in the midst of multiple challenges that have become overwhelming or are beyond their existing skill level. In this way, a third party can often be of enormous help. Significant life issues, theta may have been going on for months or years, can be solved in a handful of sessions.
Counselling is a collaborative listening process whereby the counsellor and the client deal with one or more current life problems that are causing some level of distress. It can be related to work, family, a current relationship or about a transition (change of job; moving; ending a relationship; grief, etc).
Couples therapy
When consulting a professional with couple issues its essential you see someone who is trained and experienced in working with the relationship itself.
That means that the practitioner looks at the two individuals and knows that each bring something to the problem that exists. Relationship therapy is never about who’s ‘right’ or who’s ‘wrong’. Whilst understandable when partners feel hurt, laying blame is not an effective long-term strategy to help the couple understand, and then overcome, whatever issues they may have.
